What Is Sugaring?

What Is Sugaring?

It still amazes me that there are so many people who still don’t know what is Sugaring. It is by far one of the gentlest and most ancient methods of hair removal. It lasts for longer than waxing and when done correctly, leads to permanent hair reduction. It is less painful and way more affordable than Laser/IPL.

Because Sugar paste only sticks to the hair and not the skin, it is a perfect hair removal method for people with sensitive skin as it is far less likely to cause irritation. The Sugar paste is applied at body temperature, it is not hot like wax, and therefore you will never be burnt by Sugar. This factor alone provides for a much more comfortable treatment as the skin is not heated prior to ripping out hair.

Sugar paste is completely natural. It is made from sugar, lemon juice and water. It is applied by hand in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This application ensures that the sugar is able to seep into the follicle, therefore lubricating it prior to removal and providing a much more gentle extraction. After the Sugar is moulded onto the desired area, it is quickly flicked off in the opposite direction, taking with it the hair and the dead skin. You are left with silky smooth skin.

Body Sugaring Hair Removal leads to permanent hair reduction. When hair is repeatedly extracted, by the root, in the first stage of growth (Anagen), the follicle wall is damaged. Over time, the wall will collapse, therefore it will no longer be able to produce new hair. When hair enters the second stage of growth (Catagen), the hair has already partly detached from the follicle wall, making it less likely to lead to permanency.

If a permanent reduction is your ultimate goal, then it is absolutely imperative that you are Sugared in the Anagen stage. Hair in this stage of growth usually lasts for 2-3 weeks, depending on the area, before it moves onto the next stage, Catagen. Hair in the Anagen stage is about the length of a grain of rice. Waxing cannot remove hair that is this short. It requires hair to be the length of that in the Catagen stage, meaning it will not lead to permanency. The only way hair removal can lead to permanency is if it is extracted in the Anagen stage. Laser and IPL also work on this fact.

So if you’re looking for an all-natural, gentle and permanent method of hair removal, give Sugaring a go!
